Ramblings about things

Consistency is key, but what is crowbar?

May the gods forgive me for my puns.

"Slow and steady wins the race", "patience is a virtue", "Rome wasn't built in a day" and so on, but there's something to be said about shutting yourself in and everything out (and off) for an indeterminate amount of time to just speedrun through something that's been on the back burner.

Nobody expects to come out of such a reclusive episode speaking a new language1, but one might be surprised how much can actually be done in a streamlined environment without switching context every 30 seconds because your phone screams for your attention.

You don't have to do it for a year like Scott H. Young2, but dedicating a timeslot (once in a blue moon) for one thing to occupy your mind fully might do wonders for your workload, be it working through a book, writing a paper, or trying to learn juggling.

Three or four hours isn't a big investment3, blink and it's gone, but forcing yourself to spend them on something you've been postponing because everything else seems more fun in the moment is like taking a hammer to the lock. Something's got to give.

Give it a try sometime, maybe there's something to be had here. And even if I'm wrong, at least you spent a couple of hours working on something you wanted to do anyways.

  1. Maybe I'm wrong?

  2. And no, I'm not under the influence of recently having finished his "Ultralearning" book, it's been a while since then.

  3. In the grand scheme of things.
